eToda
Tricycle transport in the Philippines is highly localized, governed by TODA (Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association) boundaries. Standard ride-hailing apps ignore these hyper-local jurisdictions, leading to dispatch inefficiency and territorial friction. Drivers need a system that respects their operational areas while digitizing the dispatch loop.
The Strategy
eToda was built to bridge the gap between traditional TODA structures and modern digital logistics. Instead of a global dispatch pool, the app uses TODA-based area coverage. When a passenger requests a ride, the dispatch is intelligently routed only to the drivers within the respective association’s jurisdiction, respecting local transport rules while providing a seamless “Grab-like” experience for users.
Core Features
- TODA-Aware Dispatch: Intelligent routing that maps passenger location to the specific tricycle association covering that zone.
- Hyper-Local Jurisdictions: Digital boundaries that match the real-world operational areas of local drivers.
- Low-Barrier Access: A lightweight interface designed for quick adoption by drivers and operators.
- Proof of Concept: A functional demonstration of how informal transport sectors can be digitized without displacing existing community structures.
Technical Implementation
The system utilizes a custom PHP backend for dispatch management, integrated with Leaflet for geographical boundary mapping and real-time location tracking within the association’s “TODA territory.”
