My Approach to design & development

I think of myself as a web generalist with a focus on creating simple, easy-to-use websites that prioritize the user experience. My first job in technology was as a webmaster, and it gave me the foundation and skills I needed to succeed in later roles with startups, small and medium-sized businesses, and in diverse industries.

Versatility & Adaptability:
Wearing Many Hats

One of the key skills that I developed in these settings was the ability to wear many hats and take on diverse responsibilities. Over the years, I’ve worked in areas as varied as Frontend and Backend development, Visual Graphics for Ads, UI Design, UX, Tech SEO + Local SEO/GMB, QA, Devops, Social Media Management and Project Management. This versatility and adaptability have allowed me to succeed in different roles and contexts.

Background and Perspective:
Broadening My Understanding of the World

Living in different places and experiencing different cultures has broadened my perspective and deepened my understanding of the world. I was born in the Philippines, moved to Chicago, Illinois for a long time, then to Los Angeles, and now I’m living in Manila, Philippines. Being a self-taught developer who enjoys learning new things and interacting with people from all walks of life, I am always seeking to expand my horizons and challenge myself to new experiences.

Improving Communication
and Social Skills

Teaching high school students Marketing, Media and Information Literacy, and Empowerment Technologies helped me to improve my communication and social skills, as well as my ability to explain complicated ideas in a clear and easy-to-understand way.

Personal Values and Interests:
Making a Difference

Mental health advocacy, tackling disinformation, and promoting acceptance of all people are three areas where I feel most called to volunteer my time. When I have free time, I like to go out with my family and our furbaby to explore the area around where we live or work hard on my latest home improvement project.

I think of myself as a web generalist who likes to make things simple, easy to use, and with the user in mind. Working as a webmaster was my first job in technology, and it gave me the skills I needed to succeed in roles with startups, smaller and medium-sized businesses. In such settings, I had to learn to wear many hats and take on responsibilities in areas as diverse as Frontend and Backend development, Visual Graphics for Ads, UI Design, UX, Tech SEO + Local SEO/GMB, QA, Devops, and Project Management.

Though I’ve held many roles, I’ve always been most interested in finding out what people need, generating ideas, and prototyping potential solutions. I appreciate that UX incorporates not only quantitative and qualitative research methods, but also the arts and sciences, critical and creative thinking, problem solving, and psychology. After working as a project manager and as a devops, I made the decision to focus on interface design and user experience.

Living in different places and seeing new things has broadened my perspective and deepened my understanding of the world, both of which have contributed to my development as a developer. I made my way to the U.S.A. from the Philippines, where I was born. I lived in Chicago, Illinois, for a long time; then I moved to Los Angeles; and now I’m living in Manila, Philippines. To better my design and development process, I am a self-taught developer who enjoys learning new things and interacting with people from all walks of life.

In addition to my work as a developer, I also have experience as a teacher for senior high school students, where I taught Marketing, Media and Information Literacy, and Empowerment Technologies. This has helped me improve my communication and social skills, as well as my ability to explain complicated ideas in a way that is clear and easy to understand.

Mental health advocacy, tackling disinformation and promoting acceptance of all people are three of the areas where I feel most called to volunteer my time.

In my leisure time, I enjoy venturing out with my family and furry companion to explore the neighborhood around my current residence or pouring my energy into my latest home improvement project.
